Traditional Neighborhood Design
A community featuring mixed use development with a focus on healthy living. The project will be built using environmentally conscious development, and feature energy efficient, green buildings and homes.
Some possible compatible elements include:
- Holistic and alternative health businesses.
- Shops for organic products and produce.
- Home based businesses.
- Artists and musicians.
- Mediterranean or English style village with open space and real social character.
- Small farm providing food for conference center and neighborhood.
- Active living lifestyles.
- Recreational facilities such as hiking, biking and walking trails, tennis courts, pool, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, volleyball, soccer, baseball, basketball, bowling.
- Floodplain and natural areas along creek and river to be preserved; incorporate and protect the woods, rock outcroppings and variety of eco systems in the design. Possible preservation with Land Conservancy groups.
- Variety of housing styles - e.g. town homes, single family, apartments, to be built using energy efficient principles of design; green building techniques; alternative energy: wind, solar, hydropower; stormwater management for each lot; rainwater catchment systems.
- A preschool.
- Eco tourism with the conference center and beautiful natural scenery.
- Energy from the rock outcroppings and sounds of water rippling in the river encourage natural areas to be set aside for serene sitting, gathering, fire pit and meditation spots.
- Greenway can be connected to other town greenways via a bridge over Sandy Creek. This would then function as a gateway into the community. Franklinville features other historic sites, such as the 1840's Ironworks and the downtown Historic District that could be connected via the greenway system.
